Special Preview Event! Hike the Plum Creek Trail Southern Extension Project

NewsGraphic

For many outdoor enthusiasts, Colorado is nature’s paradise. Abundant trails and well-planned open space make the area a great place to get outdoors. In Castle Rock, the Town’s most popular trail is being expanded!

The East Plum Creek Trail is the main trail that travels through Town. It is not only the

Town’s most widely used paved trail, but it is also part of a larger statewide trail system

called the Colorado Front Range Trail. Construction on a southern extension is expected to start in late 2018.

Join the Parks and Recreation Commission members and Town staff to hike a portion of the planned 2018 East Plum Creek Trail extension project before the trail is built. The event takes place from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 18. Meet at the end of Perry Street, south of Plum Creek Parkway, near 1733 South Perry St. Parking is available in the cul-de-sac.

The guided hike will follow along the east side of Plum Creek along unimproved, rugged terrain. Upon completion, the trail will extend from the current end point west of Safeway to Crystal Valley Parkway. The rain date for the event will be 5 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 25.

The southern extension of the East Plum Creek Trail was included as a Town priority in the Council-approved 2015 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. A $1 million Great Outdoors Colorado Grant will help offset some of the costs and save money for other trails projects in Town. The grant will require the Town to match funds of an additional $1 million to improve the trail.
