The following permanent sign types are allowed in the Town of Castle Rock. These sign types are subject to all other codes and regulations and include, but are not limited to:
- Awning signs
- Canopy signs
- Freestanding monument signs
- Joint identification signs
- Parapet signs
- Projecting signs
- Subdivision identification signs
- Suspended signs
- Sandwich board signs
- Wall signs
- Window signs
The following temporary signs types are allowed and are subject to all other codes and regulations and include, but are not limited to:
- Subdivision, development, or construction
- Nonprofit special events
- Model home sale flags
Sign types allowed in the Downtown Overlay District
In addition to other signs allowed in the Town, the following permanent sign types are allowed in the Downtown Overlay District only, to encourage a distinctive and creative environment. These sign types are subject to all other codes and regulations and include, but are not limited to:
- Signs with visible moving, revolving, or rotating parts
- Signs with flashing lights
- Strings of bulbs
- Marquee signs
- Signs that incorporate projected images
Prohibited sign types
Sign types that are prohibited in the Town include, but are not limited to:
- Home occupation signs in residential areas
- Portable advertising devices on trailers or wheels
- Wind signs (including balloons and wind flags)
- Signs in the public right-of-way
- Signs that emit sound
Town Council can approve a special permit for a revocable license agreement to install off-site signs in the public right-of-way. The purpose of the sign plaza structures is to assist the public in locating home builders, subdivisions and developments.
Political and campaign signs
Political signs may only be displayed on private property with property owner approval. Signs advertising political candidates or ballot initiatives are not allowed to be posted in the public right-of-way. Political signs on power poles, traffic signal poles, in medians or in the tree lawn between the street and sidewalk are prohibited. On political sign per parcel is allowed.
Temporary banner signs
One temporary banner sign permit may be issued per business. Banner signs may be no larger than 32 square feet, must be posted on a building, or structure and may be posted for up to 180 days or the duration of the event. Two temporary banner sign permits are allowed per business, per year.

Electronic message signs
Electronic message signs may display commercial messages for businesses, products, or services offered on the premises. The illumination or brightness,must be regulated by automatic dimmer software or solar sensors.
